We are developing the Flexible Action and Articulated Skeleton Toolkit (FAAST), which is middleware to facilitate integration of full-body control with games and VR applications. FAAST currently supports the PrimeSensor and the Microsoft Kinect using the OpenNI framework. In this video, we show how FAAST can be used to control off-the-shelf video games such as World of Warcraft. Since these games would not normally support motion sensing devices, FAAST emulates keyboard input triggered by body posture and specific gestures. These controls can be dynamically configured for different applications and games. FAAST is free software that uses the OpenNI framework (www.openni.org). Objects from each video stream are superimposed as if they occupy the same physical space, with nearby objects from one video occluding more distant ones from another. As promised, may I present DOOM! This Hack uses FAAST and snes9x to bring Doom to Kinect! Check out the Zelda hack if you haven't already www.youtube.com Doom controls quite nicely using this scheme though the thresholds need tweaking for more precise movements. I minimize the fast window half way through this so that it stops impacting the responsiveness of the moevements. Check out FAAST if you want to get hooked up with some gameing action. All the instructions are on their page for setting up Kinect and installing their interface. Win32 (worked under amd64 on my win 7 x64 laptop) people.ict.usc.edu I can't help you with getting roms so don't even post a comment about it. NOTE zsnes will not work because I think FAAST is passing Win32 key events (dosbox will also not work for that matter!) 3D maps generated with the depth camera underlying Kinect. The models were generated by walking once through the lab environment, more complete maps could be built as well. The first part of the video shows raw, colored point clouds. The second part shows a flythrough of a 3D map represented by small surface patches. Because the models are geometric, they can be rendered in stereoscopic 3D for shutter glasses. They can also be navigated interactively, like in a computer game. Imagine building such a model of your house or apartment and then downloading some 3D furniture models. You could check what they look like and if they fit well in the space. This is the all new xbox 360 slim. This xbox was created specially for the what used to be called "Project Natal" Kinect which is a controller free way of using the Xbox 360. The xbox 360 slim is Now in Stores and will be selling pretty good according to Microsoft. Personally I don't think I will buy it because I already have and Xbox 360 Elite and its the same price. Description
This is one of the games I wanted to do from day one, I hope you agree that the control method genuinely enhances an already amazing game. I'm not sure if it comes across in the video but this is really fun and works pretty darn well. After the SNES trials I turned straight to Max Payne, but due to FAAST not currently sending low level key presses I was stumped. I managed to find a solution in using the remapping feature of AutoHotKey which has allowed this to work. Future versions of FAAST will negate the need for running this extra script. As you can see, the leaning left and right stuff is all there - and moving your body forward and backs moves you back and forwards. The reload and interact gestures are becoming pretty standard for me now, and pain killers are popped with an upward motion of the left hand. What makes this special though is the leg movements that activate bullet time. The result is bullet time diving for real! When this game hit just after the Matrix film came out it caused a big stir - with kinect augmentation it gets even better. The GlovePie script has been improved to allow better aiming as you'll see and in conclusion I think I'm going to spend a few days actually playing through one of my favourite games of all time in a brand new way. I actually forgot how hard this game was, with the serious scarcity of ammo, variance in weapon dynamics, your fragility and low movement speed combining into a high pressured shoot out.
