3D models built with Kinect style depth camera

3D models built with Kinect style depth camera

Description
3D maps generated with the depth camera underlying Kinect. The models were generated by walking once through the lab environment, more complete maps could be built as well. The first part of the video shows raw, colored point clouds. The second part shows a flythrough of a 3D map represented by small surface patches. Because the models are geometric, they can be rendered in stereoscopic 3D for shutter glasses. They can also be navigated interactively, like in a computer game. Imagine building such a model of your house or apartment and then downloading some 3D furniture models. You could check what they look like and if they fit well in the space. Collaboration between Intel Labs Seattle and University of Washington Department of Computer Science & Engineering.
